On an 8×8 chess board, the central 2×2 can be decisive to winning a game. Conflating these squares to one position intensifies such games. It also allows, for example, a rook to switch row or column during a move. However, a game can be suddenly and decisively won when a player gets a queen in the central position and checkmate occurs. It is worthwhile to play this quick variant a few times despite it being a significantly unbalanced game.
